This week, Airbnb sent out a petition to legalize apartment sharing. Nearly 12,000 people have signed the petition headed by Airbnb’s community manager, Sheila K. The goal of the petition is to urge policy makers to account for the views of people affected by the ongoing State vs. Airbnb struggle.
This weekend, the State subpoenaed the names and hosting information of all NYC Airbnb users. This is the last move in the nearly year long struggle between N.Y. State and Airbnb. If the State is granted rights to the information, users will likely be fined and Airbnb will lose up to 15,000 NYC hosts.
The deadline to sign the petition is October 20th and 20,000 signatures are needed.
