The Flatiron District is located in New York within the Manhattan borough. Named after the Flatiron Building, the Flatiron District is up to interpretation where its boundaries lie. However, in most cases, the southern border is located on Union Square; the western boundary stops at 7th ave; its northern border is located on 25th street, and its eastern border will extend to Gramercy Park. Flatiron houses a lot of culture and expression through its numerous art exhibits, popular museums, and of course Madison Square Park.
Accessibility: Commuting to Flatiron is relatively simple. With the L, N, Q, R, 4, 5 & 6 trains all conveniently stop at Union Square or 23rd St, coming uptown or downtown is very accessible. Cabs heading towards inner Manhattan can be time-consuming depending on where you’re coming from and the time of day. Therefore, we suggest using the subway for more consistent timeframes to get to Flatiron.
Lifestyle: In pristine weather, local residents will head towards Madison Square Park to enjoy the wonderful scenery, to casually sit and read in one of the many seating areas, or to enjoy a wonderful burger at Shake Shack. For more cultural spots, Flatiron houses the Museum of Sex and Eataly, which are both highly recommended in all Flatiron guides.
Restaurants and bars: Flatiron is home to a diverse amount of restaurants and bars. You can grab a burger in the park at Shake Shack, celebrate a special occasion and spend a small fortune at Eleven Madison Park, or relax and mingle at chic bars like the Flatiron Lounge. Whether you wish to have a nice brunch with the parents or go clubbing with your friends, anybody can be well accommodated. We’d also be remiss not to mention the food trucks that flood Union Square every day. They offer eclectic, unique, and often inexpensive options that you can’t find anywhere else in the city.
Cost of living: Flatiron’s residential inventory is relatively slim because much of the available space has been commercially zoned. This is changing, however, due to a recent influx of luxury developments that include amenities such as a gym, rooftop access, and a doorman. The median sale price for apartments within Flatiron average around $2.8 million while the median rental costs are generally around $4,200 a month.
