Oscar Winner Matt Damon is Making the Move to NYC

by | Sep 19, 2017

Although he’s one of Boston’s most notable residents, Matt Damon might make the move to New York City, and set a record along the way.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the actor is in contract to purchase a Brooklyn Heights penthouse for $16.645 million, making this the most expensive residential sale ever in Brooklyn. The previous record was set in 2015 for a Cobble Hill townhouse that sold for $15.5 million.

So, what exactly will the Oscar winner be purchasing? The penthouse is located at the top of the 12-story building and is a combination of three of the units. The apartment also features six bedrooms and its own massive, private terrace. The building offers a gym, 24-hour concierge service, a children’s playroom, and breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline.

According to the building’s website, the condominium was previously known as The Standish Arms Hotel (now, it’s simply labeled as The Standish), a luxury hotel which originally opened in 1903.

As Brooklyn Heights continued to develop and change around it, the hotel held onto its classic, elegant appearance. To this day, the building is still settled next to brownstone homes on a tree-lined street.

However, this is not the first time Damon has considered moving to New York. In 2012, Damon reportedly was trying to lock in an Upper West Side apartment, but was ultimately outbid on the unit.

Then, last year, rumors began to swirl that the actor was interested in buying all six units in a Brooklyn mansion and turning it into a single family home, but the deal never developed. Hopefully, everything runs smoothly this time for Damon.
