Tennis Star Novak Djokovic Plays Doubles In Soho

by | Feb 8, 2017

Novak Djokovic is playing doubles at 565 Broome Street, as the Serbian tennis player recently purchased two apartments in the twin-tower building. “Nole”, as he is nicknamed, is currently ranked No. 2 in the world by the ATP World Tour.

The building, which is still under construction, is designed by Renzo Piano who designed The Whitney Museum. Djokovic is a fan of the famed architect and also purchased a unit in the Piano-designed Eighty-Seven Park in Miami Beach. 565 Broome is Piano’s first residential project in the city and is planned to be completed in 2018.

The two apartments were purchased for an undisclosed sum, though 565 Broome’s director of sales confirmed the units are both two bedrooms and occupy more than 2,000 square feet. It is interesting to note that the two units purchased by Djokovic are not on the same floor and cannot be combined.

Typically, two bedroom apartments in the 30-story building start at $4.1 million and go up to $6.1 million. Other apartments in the building range from $2.3 million for a one bedroom to $14 million for a duplex.

The interiors are elegantly designed by RDAI, who kept the palette clean and neat with quality materials such as white oak floors, Calacatta Caldia marble walls, and floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

While 565 Broome may not have a tennis court for the star, it does have a 55-foot indoor lap pool. The building also offers a fitness center and spa with sauna and steam rooms, an indoor lounge, a library, and a wet bar.

As Djokovic told the Wall Street Journal, I love the design of these two buildings and their location is fantastic. Both New York and Miami are on my travel list every year and it will be exciting to have a place to come back to.
